Biography of Michael Dobbelt
I was born on the 4th of August 1960 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. This cultural center with world-wide famous Hermitage gave me the opportunity since childhood to study the best art.
Since early childhood I had a passion for painting. When I decided to pursue a graduate degree, I knew for certain that it had to be a career that involved art. Having graduated from the Academy of Theater in St. Petersburg in 1990, I earned a Master's degree in stage design.
I left theater very soon to engage in oil painting, but my background comes through all my pieces as they are very theatrical by their very nature.
My strength lies in the ability to unite in various ways the real, scrutinized, and the well-thought out with the fantastic and the surreal, blending them together exactly as it is done in the theater.
Since 2001 I live and work in Dresden, Germany, as an independent artist. I am the member of the German National Assosiation of Arts.
My art is based on the maximum emotional influence of absurdity, the optimum method of conversation.
Absurdity could be looked at as a "secret of sense", a method to prove a point from the very opposite. My Language is the language of absurdity too. I try to show what excites me with the help of this extroadinary tool and this is how I have my dialogue with my viewers. If someone likes my painting - it means that we speak the same language.
On the visual level my work is about the juxtaposition of figurative forms. On the verbal level they open up a dialogue about human relationships. My main theme is the relationship between human and nature...People should understand that God has given it brains not to drill holes in Earth, and that other resources must be thought.
